Compare and contrast the female protagonists in James Joyce’s “Eveline” and Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour.” How are these character’s (their lives, personalities, dreams, values) alike or different? What techniques do the author’s employ to help convey some the texts broader themes or messages about women and society (Some things to think about are how does the writer set up the conflict between the values of family and home with the values of independence and personal desire; what does narrator reveal about the protagonists’ identity (and identity as a woman), history, economic status, and dreams or desires?)
