This is a paper that focuses on the Bird’s Eye View of Federal Policy and agenda analysis. The paper also discusses the advancing of an agenda in congress and also the paper requirements.
The Bird’s Eye View of Federal Policy and agenda analysis
Write a detailed policy analysis on both of the following prompts:
a) A Bird’s Eye View of Federal Policy: Firstly, choose a particular policy area or policy problem that interests you. Then, what is the current federal policy? When did Congress first intervene in this area? How has federal policy evolved over time? What are lingering problems that Congress must address? How should Congress deal with this problem? Lastly, write a detailed report on this policy issue to answer these questions
b) Advancing an Agenda in Congress: Imagine you are hired by a firm, group, business, or not-for-profit organization to help advance a policy issue. Based upon your knowledge of this policy area, as well as the legislative process, how to access members of Congress, and the current political landscape in Congress, how can you help your firm advance their agenda and gain the attention of Congress? What are some tactics that you can employ to advance your interests?
The Bird’s Eye View of Federal Policy analysis
What is the likelihood of being able to enact your agenda, given the political constraints in the current Congress? Write an accurate and sober analysis for your employer that demonstrates your advanced knowledge of this policy area, the legislative process in Congress, and also the current political landscape on Capitol Hill. Be sure to explicitly state who you are working for and what interests you will be seeking to advance. You must also discuss existing federal policy related to this issue and how specifically you would like this changed. A few hypothetical examples:
1) You are working with the Union of Concerned Scientists and have been hired to promote cap and trade policy in Congress
2) You are employed by Exxon-Mobil and would like to decrease federal restrictions on oil exploration in the Artic
3) You are working for a Medical Marijuana trade organization and you would like to have federal cannabis restrictions eased for medical marijuana providers
Requirements: The reports must be 5 – 6 pages (double spaced) in length. You must cite at least 10 separate academic sources (you are free to use class readings, but the textbook will only for as one source) . The paper should be in APSA style, including in-text citations and a “References” page (see https://www.csuchico.edu/lref/pols/APSA.pdf for a summary of the APSA style guide).
