What am I required to do in this assignment?
The assessment consists in a 3,000-word report on a human rights issue of current relevance on behalf of a (fictional) non-governmental organisation (NGO) engaged in the protection of human rights.

The NGO report should:
Firstly, identify a current situation which raises questions of IHRL which are either still unresolved, OR have been resolved in a way which you find unsatisfactory;
Secondly, provide a brief overview of the situation under consideration;
Thirdly, set out the relevant rules of international human rights law which regulate the area you have chosen to examine;
Fourthly, set out the position of your fictional organisation, and provide reasoned conclusions and recommendations addressed to a target audience. The conclusions must be based on legal argument.
The choice of topic is subject to final approval by the unit co-ordinator.

The report must contain the following sections:
(1)     executive summary;
(2)     table of contents;
(3)     introduction of your NGO, detailing its mandate/mission (max 1 page);
(4)     factual description of the issue/phenomenon/situation addressed in the report;
(5)     analysis of the principal legal questions which arise in that context and discussion of how IHRL currently regulates the area under consideration;
(6)     your NGO’s critical assessment of the current state of the law and/or its implementation in practice; and
(7)     recommendations for improvement of the current legal framework and/or of its implementation;
(8)     list of key sources/bibliography.

In order to pass the assessment, you will need to:
Firstly, identify a problematic situation of current relevance which raises issues of IHRL;
Secondly, locate, analyse and synthesise case law, international documents and academic literature in order to identify the principles of IHRL which are relevant to your chosen question and;
Lastly, construct a coherent, convincing and legally-sound argument, which should be presented in a clear, structured and grammatically correct manner, in accordance with OSCOLA.
