“There Will Come Soft Rain” is a dystopian short story written by Ray Bradbury.  This story shows at dystopian society in which human’s misuse of technology has led to the destruction of all humans and only one house is left standing after a nuclear bomb.

Introduction:
“There Will Come Soft Rain” is a dystopian short story written by Ray Bradbury.  This story shows at dystopian society in which human’s misuse of technology has led to the destruction of all humans and only one house is left standing after a nuclear bomb. Through the use of Irony, Imagery and Similes Bradbury gives a clear message that the advancement of technology could be a great threat to humanity.

Body paragraph one:
I. Irony
A. Technology designed to protect people has destroyed humanity
B. The house being destroyed by nature
C. The house reading the poem by Teasdale “There Will Come Soft Rain”

Body paragraph two:
II. Imagery
A.    The clock singing
B.     The “silhouette” of 5 people
C.     The crash of the house after the fire
D.    The rain tapping in the house and hearing an echo

Body paragraph three:
III. Simile
A.    The toast like “stone”
B.     The dishes being handle like “magic tricks”
C.     The “nerves” of the house revealed “as if a surgeon had torn the skin off”
D.    The fire feeding on painting like “delicacies”

Conclusion: Bradbury’s story shows readers that despite all the technology a single house possesses, the fancy tech was unable to save the family or the house itself.  In fact, it was advanced technology in the form of nuclear weaponry that caused the destruction in the first place.
